2 Corinthians 12:1-6

In 2 Corinthians 12:1-6 the Apostle Paul speaks about what many scholars believe to be his own experience with a possible outer body experience.  This is Paul’s boasting in the Lord in the experience he has had in verifying his own belief in God.  He states in 2 Corinthians 12:4 (NKJV), “how he was caught up into Paradise and heard inexpressible words, which it is not lawful for a man to utter.”  This may very well be of his conversion experience as explained in Acts 9:1-19 and most directly of what was happening during Acts 9:9.

This is the boasting of the Apostle Paul; not of what he has accomplished on his own but of what God has done in his life to change him from his old self into his new life – in Christ.

We all have our own conversion experience relationships with God that solidify our belief and faith in God.  Even though there are not many who experience conversion as did the Apostle Paul, the change in our hearts is the working of the same Holy Spirit of God.  Let us all boast not in and of ourselves, but of what God has, and is doing in our lives – in Christ.

Dear LORD,

To boast in ourselves is to claim self-righteousness outside of Your divine influence in our lives.  Please help us to see that it is only through opening our hearts to Jesus in the salvation that You offer to us in the gift – the gift of Your great love for us in redeeming us back to You for all who will believe.  In Jesus name I pray, amen.
