2 Corinthians 11:16-21

In 2 Corinthians 11:16-21 the Apostle Paul has grown quite frustrated with the attitudes of the Corinthians in allowing the abuse of the false apostles while yet questioning his true preaching and teaching of the gospel of Christ Jesus.  He injects sarcasm to make his point to them as he first demands that no one call him a fool (2 Corinthians 11:16a) and then, as if in foolishness the false apostles are received by them, he declares that for him to be received by them that they receive him as a fool as it seems that they will only receive the teaching of the foolish ones as is the false apostles (2 Corinthians 11:16b-21).

This is an example of the blindness that the false teachings can cause in drawing one away from the true gospel with the promises that only lead to spiritual demise.

There has been a change in the way the world views theology today, and much of it is conducted by people with proper degrees and hold proper positions in our universities but yet teach a false gospel that is geared at man’s desires instead of God’s desires for us.  We must not fall to this false theology of the world, but seek the truth from the Bible – God’s Word – which is the textbook of solid theological foundations.  It is not up to us to decide what the Bible teaches us as if to make it say what we want it to say, but to study and learn the Bible in its entirety and unity, and then apply its teachings in our lives through the help of God’s Holy Spirit working in our lives.  We are not allowed to change the Bible; the Bible is intended to change us – in Christ!

Dear LORD,

We have fallen in our interpretation of Your Word that is meant to change our lives from the inside-out.  The Bible teaches us in Hebrews 4:11-13 (NKJV), “Let us therefore be diligent to enter that rest, lest anyone fall according to the same example of disobedience.  For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.  And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are naked and open to the eyes of Him to whom we must give account.”  Jesus said to Nicodemus in John 3:3, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.”  Please inspire us to seek this in our lives and change our lives – in Christ!  In Jesus name I pray, amen.
