1 Corinthians 4:1-2

As the Apostle Paul has been teaching of putting one’s faith in the wisdom of God and not in the wisdom of man, he reminds the congregation of the church at Corinth that he and his fellow ministers, servants, and workers are servants of Christ.  Paul has declared in 1 Corinthians 2:2 (NKJV), “For I determined not to know anything among you except Jesus Christ and Him crucified.”  He wants the congregation of the church at Corinth to know how important it is to be faithful stewards in Christ Jesus – that the knowledge of this world (as they have been seeking in their own lives) should give way to the knowledge of God.  He wants them to know that in serving God in Christ Jesus requires a personal decision of commitment and dedication to seeking Jesus in their lives.

This is an example of a faithful servant, steward, and worker of God in Christ Jesus.

God has called each one of us to Him individually, but uniformly all in Christ Jesus to be His stewards, servants, and ministers in the world today.  He has called each of us to leave the ways of this world in the sinful nature and follow Him – to be a reflection of Jesus so that others may be drawn to Him through our dedication and obedience to Him.  Jesus teaches us in John 13:15-17 (NKJV), “For I have given you an example, that you should do as I have done to you.  Most assuredly, I say to you, a servant is not greater than his master; nor is he who is sent greater than he who sent him.  If you know these things, blessed are you if you do them.”  The Apostle Paul instructs, “Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, and in purity” 1 Timothy 4:12(NIV).

Dear LORD,

Please help us to realize that we are all stewards of the gospel.  This may be shown in many ways in which You have designed us specially for.  We may not think that You would use us to help spread the gospel and be a reflection of our Savior, but that is exactly what we all should be – in Christ.  We may not know how to do this LORD, so please open the doors that You would have us go through to bring glory to You through our lives.  In Jesus name I pray, amen.
