1 Timothy 6:20–21
In 1 Timothy 6:20–21 is the ending of the letter from the Apostle Paul to Timothy. He declares, “20O Timothy! Guard what was committed to your trust, avoiding the profane and idle babblings and contradictions of what is falsely called knowledge – 21by professing it some have strayed concerning the faith.
“Grace be with you. Amen” (1 Timothy 6:20–21, NKJV).
Paul has given Timothy instructions as to the behavior of those in leadership of the Church. He has warned Timothy of the false teachings that will make their attempts on infiltrating the Church, and to keep focus on Jesus and to not be lured into the traps set by the evil ways of this world. He ends the letter with the grace of God to be with Timothy.
This is a command to guard what has been given to us by God.
This is a command to avoid the contradictions and false teachings that attempt to lead us astray from the way, the truth and the life that is found only in Jesus.
The teachings that the Apostle Paul has given Timothy are valid for us all as we seek to grow and develop in our relationship with our Savior Jesus who died in our place to pay for our sins. He also rose from the grave in victory over death, sin, and Satan to make a way for us to be forgiven and purified by His grace. As Paul ends his first letter to Timothy let the ending words ring true in all our hearts, “Guard what was committed to your trust, avoiding the profane and idle babblings and contradictions of what is falsely called knowledge – 21by professing it some have strayed concerning the faith.
“Grace be with you. Amen” (1 Timothy 6:20–21).
Dear LORD,
You have committed things to each of our hearts as You lead and grow us in our own walk with You through faith of our Salvation in Christ Jesus. Please help us to learn Your Word and utilize it in our hearts, minds, and souls so that we may know when someone is attempting to mislead us away from You. Please be gracious to us and forgive us and help us to stand strong – in Christ. In Jesus name I pray, amen.
