1 Timothy 6:11 (part 3: faith)

The third thing that the Apostle Paul instructs Timothy to pursue in 1 Timothy 6:11 in being a leader in the Church is faith. The Bible teaches us in Hebrews 11:1 (NKJV), “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” The substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen implies that faith can be seen through the actions and results of the actions it produces.

This is a command to pursue faith in God and our Savior Jesus Christ.

As I write this daily devotional Bible study in pursuing what the LORD has put in my heart, I am also about to complete my master’s thesis which is about bridging faith and reason through love. Love in itself cannot be seen, but the actions and results of love can clearly be seen as is the love a person has for their spouse. How do you know that your spouse loves you? You cannot physically see love, but you know that your spouse loves you because you see it in their daily actions and the results of those actions. Taking care of each other is a great example of the love a husband and wife share together. Putting up with each other’s imperfections is another way we show our love for one another.

Faith is similarly fashioned as we have faith in the fact that our spouse loves us. We cannot see faith, but we know it exists through the actions and results it produces in our lives. As we have faith and love for our spouses, we should see the example that God has given us in this to put our faith and love in Him as our God and Savior.

Dear LORD,

To have faith in You is a hard task for those who seek the physical proof of the reasoning process. The truth is that we all utilize faith in our everyday lives in the things we hope for without actually seeing them. We do, however, see the results of our faith in this life and in our relationship with You as our actions and reactions of our new life in Christ are much different than that of the old ways that we once lived. Please help us to realize and understand that faith is real and that our faith in You will change our lives and give us new life – In Christ! In Jesus name I pray, amen.
