1 Timothy 4:13–16
In 1 Timothy 4:13–16 (NKJV) the Apostle Paul gives Timothy instructions to, “give attention to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine. 14Do not neglect the gift that is in you, which was given to you by prophecy with the laying on of the hands of the eldership. 15Meditate on these things; give yourself entirely to them, that your progress may be evident to all. 16Take heed to yourself and to the doctrine. Continue in them, for in doing this you will save both yourself and those who hear you.
This is a command to take heed of the gifts God has given us as they are the means to lead others to Jesus.
For the leaders of the Church it is a life dedicated to the study of God’s word and of how to present it to others as to lead them to salvation in Christ Jesus, and to lead others in the pursuit of a life that is reflective of Jesus. This, however, is the goal for all Christians; for you and for me as we strive to be the people God has called us to be and to fulfill His will for our lives. It is important that we all take the words of the Apostle Paul personally as he states in 1 Timothy 4:16, “16Take heed to yourself and to the doctrine. Continue in them, for in doing this you will save both yourself and those who hear you.” When Jesus first began His earthly ministry, He declared to two fishermen in Matthew 4:19, “Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men.” Jesus made His first two disciples from common everyday fishermen; He can do the same for you if you will answer His call on your life with a “yes.”
Dear LORD,
Sometimes we fall into Satan’s trap of believing that others are the ones to lead the lost to You and we are not qualified to do Your work here on earth. The truth is that You make us each a strong warrior for Christ Jesus in the battle against the wiles of the devil, and You have called each of us to lead through our example. Please help us all to do so LORD – In Christ! In Jesus name I pray, amen.
