1 Timothy 4:1–5
The Apostle Paul preached to the crowd in Acts 17:22–34 about the many different gods they were worshiping; so many that he found an inscription “TO THE UNKNOWN GOD” (Acts 17:23, NKJV). Paul wants Timothy to be aware of these false teachings that no doubt will hinder the gospel, but that the truth is found in the One true God of heaven – the Creator of all things.
This is a promise that false teaching will be found, but to aware and knowledgeable of the gospel so as to not fall into their trap of lies.
There continue to be false teachings of the gospel today in which the true word of God has been twisted to fit one’s personal desires and agenda. We all can be aware of the true word of God by studying our Bibles and memorizing its words. We will then know when false teachings are presented to us. The Bible teaches us in 2 Timothy 3:16–17, “All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.”
Dear LORD,
We pray today that this lesson will inspire us to read, study, and memorize Your word so that we will be knowledgeable of it and prepared to defend it when false teachings are presented to us, that we would not fall to the lies but stand on the truth of the gospel – in Christ. In Jesus name I pray, amen.
