1 Timothy 2:5–7
In 1 Timothy 2:5-7 the Apostle Paul is reiterating his instructions from 1 Timothy 2:3-4 as he declared salvation is good and acceptable in the eyes of God for everyone. The stereotype of the day was that salvation was only good and acceptable for the Jews.
Paul was chosen by God to preach the gospel to the Gentiles and he wants everyone to know that God sent His One and only Son Jesus to save the world from sin (John 1:29; 3:16-17), and that this is to include the Gentile nations as well. Paul pleads with the crowd that he is not lying to them, but in faith and truth he has been appointed to be a teacher of the gospel to the Gentiles (1 Timothy 2:7).
This is a promise that all people are included in salvation if they will put their faith in Jesus.
There is some belief still today that salvation is only for particular people and that others are simply just not able to be saved. This theory is proven false by the story of the Good Samaritan (Luke 10:25-37). The lesson in the story of the Good Samaritan is that the ones who thought themselves worthy of God did not do as God would have had them to in showing compassion to one in need, but the Samaritan (one who was considered unworthy and an outcast by the Jews) was the one who had a heart of compassion for the one in need. This lesson was for everyone to see that salvation is not due or deserved because of a skin color or nationality but in the condition of one’s heart as being right with God and accepting His Son Jesus as Savior.
Dear LORD,
Please help us to realize and understand that salvation in and through Christ Jesus is not deserved by anyone, but is received through our faith, humility, and obedience to You in opening our hearts to Jesus and following His teaching – applying these lessons in our own lives in obedience to You, Almighty God. In Jesus name I pray, amen.
