1 Thessalonians 5:3-5
1 Thessalonians 5:3-5 is in reference to those who feel that no wrath of God will ever come, or at least not that will have an effect on them, as the state of mind is that everything will be okay even though they do not seek God’s will for their lives. The Apostle Paul relates this type of attitude to that of labor pains coming upon a pregnant woman; she does not know when the pains will come, and she will not escape them (1 Thessalonians 5:3).
Paul gives encouragement to the Thessalonians by declaring, “4But you, brethren, are not in darkness, so that this Day should overtake you as a thief. 5You are all sons of light and sons of the day. We are not of the night nor of darkness” (1 Thessalonians 5:4-5, NKJV).
This is an example that there are some who do not fear the Day of Judgment of the coming of the Lord.
This is a promise that even though you may choose to believe that you will be okay through the Day of Judgement, the only belief that will save you from this day is to put your faith in Jesus and profess Him your Savior.
We are all free to choose what we will believe or not believe; that is a condition of true love as is the love that God extends to us all. But what you believe or not believe does not change the reality or the outcome of the truth. The reality and truth of the Bible is found in Christ Jesus as we learn in John 14:6 as Jesus declares, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” You may choose to believe that there is another way, but if Jesus was not allowed to choose another way as He was about to be nailed to the cross, I don’t think that you will be allowed another way either. Jesus expresses His knowledge of the pain and suffering He will endure on the cross for the sins of the world as He states, “Now My soul is troubled, and what shall I say? ‘Father, save Me from this hour?’ But for this purpose I came to this hour. Father glorify Your name” (John 12:27-28). It is only through the blood of Jesus that we are saved (Matthew 26:28, Acts 20:28, Romans 3:25; 5:9, Ephesians 1:7; 2:13, Colossians 1:19-20, 1 Peter 1:17-21, 1 John 1:7, Revelation 1:5; 5:9).
Dear LORD,
You have created us with our own minds to believe whatever we choose; it is a requirement of Your great love to not be forceful but ever giving and freely receiving. Please help us to realize and understand that the choices we make are not simply for the time we spend here on earth but for eternity. I pray LORD that our choices be in Christ Jesus our Lord and Savior. In Jesus name I pray, amen.
