1 Thessalonians 2:5

The Apostle Paul declared his and his teams calling by God to preach the gospel (1 Thessalonians 2:4), and he begins defending that in 1 Thessalonians 2:5 as he states, “5For neither at any time did we use flattering words, as you know, nor a cloak for covetousness – God is witness.” He declares God as his witness who knows all things. Paul declares in Romans 8:28-30 (NKJV), “And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose. For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren. Moreover whom He predestined, these He also called; whom He called, these He also justified; and whom He justified, these He also glorified.”

This is a promise and example of being pure in Christ through the lives we live for Him.

We all are called by God for a purpose. These purposes are different but are tailor made for each one according to God’s design for us. It is important that we not let Satan work his way into our lives and trick us into false ways, teachings, and examples that are reflective of having ulterior motives such as financial gain or self-seeking praise. A great way to check ourselves as to our dedication and obedience to Jesus is simply to ask ourselves in any situation. . . “Would Jesus approve of this if He were physically standing right here next to me?” It is amazing how clarity presents itself in this situation. Live for Jesus and live “What would Jesus Do?” in your life.

Dear LORD,

The devil finds it easy to distract us and trick us into following his covetous ways. Jesus said that the devil is the father of lies (John 8:44). Please help us to discern the pattern of the devil when he tempts us and tries us so that we may call upon the name of Jesus to fend him away. Jesus, help us to follow your will for our lives and to walk in Your footsteps. In Jesus name I pray, amen.
