1 Thessalonians 2:13
In 1 Thessalonians 2:13 is the dividing of the soul and spirit as only the Apostle Paul can put to words through the revelation he has received from Jesus working in his own life through God’s Holy Spirit (NKJV), “13For this reason we also thank God without ceasing, because when you received the word of God which you heard from us, you welcomed it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which also effectively works in you who believe.”
This is the promise of a changed life for all who believe in Jesus and the true gospel.
To be a Christian and to believe in Jesus and the teachings of the Bible is not simply to read a book written by men and think it a good story. The Bible is the inspired Word of God and is powerful as we learn in Hebrews 4:12, “For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” The Word of God is alive, and we become alive in Christ through believing in the Bible as being the truly inspired Word of God. It changes our lives and makes us a new person as we believe the teachings we find in it. When we believe that Jesus was sent from heaven to save us from sin (John 1:29, 3:16-17) and that we may have new life in Him. When we believe in our hearts that Jesus was raised from the dead, defeating sin once for all (Romans 6:10) and we confess with our mouths that Jesus is our Lord and Savior (Romans 10:9-10) we will be saved and become a new person in Christ! Do so today, and believe it, and you too will become a child of God (John 1:10-13).
Dear LORD,
Your Word is alive and it breathes new life into all who will believe in its inspired words as You have led those who have written it. Please make it come alive in all our lives as we open our hearts to Jesus, profess Him our Savior, and believe – believe that You have risen Him from the grave in victory for all – for all who will believe it and profess it. In Jesus name I pray, amen.
