1 Peter 1:22-25

In 1 Peter 1:22-25, Peter teaches us that in being born again (verse 23) through the living word of God, which is incorruptible and abides forever, we should live with a pure heart to our brothers and sisters in Christ.  When we were saved though Christ Jesus we were purified in our hearts, purging sin out and filling with God’s Holy Spirit.  Peter tells us that we should now live according to this new life and purity granted through salvation in Christ Jesus.  He goes on to quote Isaiah 40:6-8 which tells of the frailty of man as of that in comparison to the grass of the field that in all it’s glory, still yet fades away and withers, but the word of God endures forever.

This is a command to live by the word of God.

The Bible is our textbook to life.  It is where we find the way to a Godly life.  If we desire to live our lives as God would have us to, we must read the directions – the Bible.  As Christians we are to love one another as Jesus first loved us (John 13:34-35) and this holds true for loving all people, but especially for our brothers and sisters in Christ.  We will all wither and die one day; but God’s word will endure forever, and the directions will not change from one generation to the next.  Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life.  No one comes to the Father except through Him (John 14:6).

Dear LORD,

As Christians, being those who have opened our hearts to Jesus and accepted the gift of salvation that You offer to us through Him, we must realize that it doesn’t stop there – it’s the beginning of a new life of sharing the love that You first showed to us with all those around us and throughout the world.  And as Your children redeemed, we are to be in unwavering support of one another in Christ Jesus as the body of the Church.  Please work through us to spread Your love for all people throughout all the earth that You would be glorified through us.  In Jesus name I pray, amen.
