1 Corinthians 7:1-7

We learn in 1 Corinthians 7:1-7 that the saints at the church in Corinth have written to the Apostle Paul for his instructions pertaining to sexual activity.  Paul advises that it is best to abstain from sexual activity, but in 1 Corinthians 7:2-4 (NKJV) he states, “2Nevertheless, because of sexual immorality, let each man have his own wife, and let each woman have her own husband.  3Let the husband render to his wife the affection due her, and likewise also the wife to her husband.  4The wife does not have authority over her own body, but the husband does.  And likewise the husband does not have authority over his own body, but the wife does.”  This is the respect of the bond of marriage – the dedication to one another as the married couple becomes one in the eyes of God (Genesis 2:24).  Paul does not command that everyone should get married as some, such as himself, are able to withstand sexual temptations.  But for those who are married, sexual activity is a privilege and bond of the intimate relationship of marriage and should not be deprived.

This is an example of the bond of marriage between a man and a woman.

Sexual activity was meant by God to be a private bonding time for the husband and the wife – an intimate time to be experienced by the married couple to grow and enjoy the dedication and obedience they have committed to one another.  While marriage is not a requirement in the eyes of God, if the temptation of sexual activity is experienced and one desires to have a sexually active life, then marriage is the avenue which should be taken as sexual activity is intended to be a bonding experience for a man and his wife.

Dear LORD,

You created man; and You created woman from man to be his companion throughout physical life.  Sexual activity is meant for a special intimate time of bonding between the husband and the wife.  Please let it be so LORD.  In Jesus name I pray, amen.
