1 Corinthians 3:5-8

The people of the church at Corinth had begun separating themselves into different religious divisions by whom it was that led them to salvation in Christ Jesus.  Some claimed to follow Paul, and some claimed to follow Apollos.  Paul declares in his letter to them (1 Corinthians 3:6-7 (NKJV), “6I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the increase.  7So then neither he who plants is anything, nor he who waters, but God who gives the increase.”  Paul and Apollos were ministers of the gospel as God worked His will through each of these men.  The people of the congregation of the church at Corinth should not have been separating themselves but pulling together in celebration of the work that God had done through these two ministers.

This is an example that we are all one in Christ Jesus.

The Bible teaches us in Galatians 3:28 (NIV), “There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.”  And in Romans 12:2 (ESV) the Bible teaches us, “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.”

Satan will use whatever means he can to separate the Church of Christ Jesus, but it is through the power of God that we are able to overcome the ways of this world.  Jesus calls us all to come together in our salvation.  I truly believe this is how it should be – in Christ.

Dear LORD,

We have allowed Satan to infiltrate the Church and separate us instead of keeping our focus on You and Your will for our lives.  We are no different than the church at Corinth as we continue to divide ourselves from one another.  We have many different denominations of the Church today.  We ask Your forgiveness for this as we hope and pray that You will break down the barriers that we have allowed Satan to build and bring us all back together – in Christ.  In Jesus name I pray, amen.
