1 Corinthians 3:18-23

The Apostle Paul writes to the church at Corinth these words as found in 1 Corinthians 2:4-5 (NKJV), “And my speech and my preaching were not with persuasive words of human wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power, that your faith should not be in the wisdom of men but in the power of God.”  The people in Corinth, including the congregation of the church at Corinth, were caught up in trying to demonstrate how wise they could be in their own eyes/in the eyes of their peers.

This is an example that God’s wisdom is greater than the wisdom of man.

This is a command to put our faith in God and He will give us all things as He wills.

It is not a bad thing to be a wise person, but it becomes harmful to our spiritual relationship with God and our salvation in Christ Jesus when we begin to think that in our own wisdom we no longer need to seek God’s will for our lives.  The congregation of the church at Corinth wanted to be saved in Christ Jesus, but they continued to seek their own will instead of seeking God’s will for their lives.  Let us focus on God and put our faith in the saving power of our Savior Jesus, and He will give us all things as He wills.

Dear LORD,

Please help us to see that continuing to seek our own will and wisdom after putting our faith in You through Your gift to us in Christ Jesus is unbecoming as a Christian.  Please help us to see that Your wisdom is greater than the wisdom of man, and that if we will seek Your wisdom in our lives, You will give it to us – in Christ.  In Jesus name I pray, amen.
