1 Corinthians 16:13-14

Jesus instructed in Luke 12:39-40 (NKJV), “But know this, that if the master of the house had known what hour the thief would come, he would have watched and not allowed his house to be broken into.  Therefore you also be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.”  The Bible teaches us in Ephesians 6:10-11, “Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might.  Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.”  And in John 13:34-35 Jesus teaches, “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another.  By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.”  The Apostle Paul ties this all together in 1 Corinthians 16:13-14 as he declares, “Watch, stand fast in the faith, be brave, be strong.  Let all that you do be done with love.”

This is a command to “Watch, stand fast in the faith, be brave, be strong.  Let all that you do be done with love” (1 Corinthians 16:13-14).

There have been many philosophers and ancient Church fathers that have longed in prayer to God to give them a reasonable, logical answer that would prove God’s existence to the worst of sinners.  But the answer is through faith in which we stand strong in the Lord, and we love because He first loved us and came to offer Himself a sacrifice for our sins so that we might live through Him.  It is through our faith that we anxiously watch for the return of our Lord and Savior; it is through faith that we stand firm in our salvation; it is through faith that we find our strength; it is through faith in Jesus that we are set free.  And let all that we do be done with love (1 Corinthians 16:14).

Dear LORD,

Please help us to understand faith, and the requirement for faith that is in Your saving grace to all who will put their faith in You.  In Jesus name I pray, amen.
