1 Corinthians 1:4-9

The Apostle Paul gives encouragement to the church at Corinth for their guidance from God in the gifts He has given them.  He verifies their testimony of Christ in them and their solid foundation in Christ Jesus that will present them blameless when Jesus returns.  Paul ends his encouraging words by proclaiming in 1 Corinthians 1:9 (NKJV), “9God is faithful, by whom you were called into the fellowship of His Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.”  Paul wants to make sure that the church at Corinth is aware that their spiritual blessings are from God through His grace, and not from or by anything that the congregation has accomplished on their own.

This is an example of the life in Christ Jesus that one should live as a child of God.

Corinth was a very worldly place in which God’s guidance was needed in following the teachings of Jesus.  It was important, as it is today, that Paul give instruction in encouragement for the way in which one should live as a Christian, or as was stated in the day, a follower of the way.  We need that encouragement too.  We live in a very worldly society that does not seem to be desiring a Godly life, but we must still yet learn and understand what it means to be a Christian.  The Apostle Paul will lead us through these steps in our study of his first letter to the church at Corinth.  We too have been given every spiritual gift.  It is very important that we know that these gifts are from God and from seeking His will for our lives.

Dear LORD,

We all need Your encouragement to strengthen us in this world that is living in its own ways.  Please continue to bless us with the gifts of a blessed spiritual life in Christ Jesus as we move forward in our relationships with You – in Christ.  In Jesus name I pray, amen.
