1 Corinthians 13:8a

True love, as we have learned in 1 John 4:8, is God.  We also know that love is of God (1 John 4:7).  We have been learning about love in 1 Corinthians 13:4-7, NKJV which declares, “4Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; 5does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; 6does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; 7bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.”

This is a promise that “Love never fails” (1 Corinthians 13:8a).

The salvation that we find in and through Christ Jesus is the epitome of true love – the love of God, being God Himself giving Himself for us – to save us from things in which we are lost to – sin.  All of these things that we have been studying about love are found in the love of God and the sacrifice that He gave on the cross to bring true forgiveness to us to receive the prize of righteousness – not our own righteousness because we are sinful, but the righteousness that is found only in purity – the purity of true love that God laid out for us – not because we loved Him but because He loves us.  1 John 4:10 declares, “In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins.”  We get hung up on the word propitiation, but it simply means, “to gain or regain the favor of”, to appease or to pacify are some synonyms of propitiate.  God appeased and pacified our sins.  God, through His love regained the favor of our righteousness – a righteousness that was never ours to start with, but a righteousness that He gave us; we lost it, He gained it back for us – in Christ.  This is love that never fails (1 Corinthians 13:8a).  If you want to experience a love that never fails, follow the instructions of the Bible in 1 John 4:15, “Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides in him, and he in God.”  God is love; abide in God and His love that never fails will abide in you – forever – in Christ!

Dear LORD,

We all long for true love that never fails; that our hearts would be comforted by it, and that our lives would be filled with it.  Your love never fails because You are true love.  You have given Your love to us in and through our Savior Jesus; please help us to realize and understand the importance of Your great unfailing love for us, that we too would put our trust in Jesus and let Your true love that never fails rule in our hearts – forever – in Christ!  In Jesus name I pray, amen.
