1 Corinthians 13:4-7 (7c)

We learn in 1 Corinthians 13:7c (NKJV), [love] “hopes all things,”.  Once again, this “hope” is not a gullible hope that is superficial and has no bearing on the reality of the subject, but a “hope” that is in the Almighty God of heaven and His power in all things and all situations.  This hope is a hope that knows that God is with us through all things and is in control of all things.  It is a hope that, in a world of sin and sorrows brought on mankind by mankind’s disobedience to God, is strong in trust, belief, and faith that God has a better way for us if we will put Him first in our lives and follow Him.

This is a promise that love hopes all things in the will of God.

The Apostle Paul declares as the Bible teaches us in Romans 8:18, “For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.”  He continues in Romans 8:24-25, “For we were saved in this hope, but hope that is seen is not hope; for why does one still hope for what he sees?  But if we hope for what we do not see, we eagerly wait for it with perseverance.”  We know from John 14:15-18 that God sends His Holy Spirit to live within all who believe in Him.  The Apostle Paul helps us understand the importance of the hope of God’s Holy Spirit living within us in Romans 8:28, “Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God.”  This is hope in all things in God’s will for our lives; we may not know where He is leading, but we are confident in our hope that His way is the best way for us to follow – in Christ.

Dear LORD,

We put our hope in many things throughout our lives.  Please help us to realize and understand that our hope should be in You and Your great plan for our lives.  This brings new light to the words of Joshua as he spoke to the Israelites in Joshua 24:15, “And if it seems evil to you to serve the LORD, choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell.  But as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.”  Please let it be so LORD.  In Jesus name I pray, amen.
