1 Corinthians 13:4-7 (7a)

Love, “bears all things” (1 Corinthians 13:7a, NKJV).  But how can love “bear” all things.  Jesus teaches in John 15:9-14, “As the Father loved Me, I also have loved you; abide in My love.  If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love, just as I have kept My Father’s commandments and abide in His love.

“These things I have spoken to you, that My joy may remain in you, and that your joy may be full.  This is My commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you.  Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends.  You are my friends if you do whatever I command you.”  Jesus bore our sins on the cross.  He says that there is no greater love than this.

This is a promise that love bears all things.

We, as reborn disciples of Christ Jesus, can “bear all things” through the love of God that works through us in supporting our family and loved ones as they experience trials and tribulations in this world – that we would “bear” with them in support of them.  For many of us, this may be difficult to know what to say or do in “bearing” others difficulties with them, but the joy found in a kind word or simply by listening to someone who would trust us enough to share their difficulties with us may help bring healing.  It is the love of God through His Holy Spirit that brings true healing – and we are the means by which He works to show His love in this world.  A kind word may be just what someone needs today – let us be the ones to share it – in Christ.

Dear LORD,

Please help us to reach out to others as Jesus reached out to us in bearing our iniquities, that we would bear with each other in respect for one another and in light of Christ Jesus our Savior working Your will for us, through us as Your Holy Spirit works in us to support each other – in Christ.  In Jesus name I pray, amen.
