1 Corinthians 13:4-7 (6b)

1 Corinthians 13:6b (NKJV) teaches us that love, “rejoices in the truth;”.  We know that God is love (1 John 4:8), so true Love/God rejoices in the truth.  In John 14:6a Jesus declares, “I am the way, the truth, and the life.”  In John 8:58 Jesus declares, “Most assuredly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I AM.”  This was to solidify His place as God incarnate – God coming to this world in the form of a man, yet with the deity of Almighty God within Him as the sinless One to provide the sacrifice for all iniquity (Isaiah 53:5-6).  This may seem conceited, but God is pure, and in His purity, He is the only One who can properly and sincerely claim this statement – to rejoice in Himself, because He is God Almighty, pure and true.

This is a promise that love rejoices in the truth.

In Genesis 1:26a we learn, “Then God said, ‘Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness;”, and Genesis 1:27 states, “So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.”  We were created in the image of God.  And in so, we have the tendency to want to be God, or to be our own gods.  Genesis 1:28 states, “Then God blessed them, and God said to them, ‘Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.’”  We “want” to have dominion over everything, which is what God granted us at creation, but He did not give us dominion over Him, and that is where sin/iniquity creeps in and causes us to fall.  God is Almighty Creator and deserves our sincere obedience to Him as He loves us in His purity so much that He came to take our iniquities upon Himself so that we could be set free from them and enjoy true life, true love, and true peace – in Christ Jesus our Savior.  Jesus “is” the truth, and in the love of God in our lives, we should rejoice in Him for being our Creator and saving us from our iniquities.

Dear LORD,

You are truth and love in its purity; You alone are worthy of rejoicing in Yourself as true sincerity will find in You alone.  Please open our hearts, souls, and minds to the love and truth that You have for us in saving us from all iniquity through Your purity, love, and truth so that we too may sincerely rejoice in You.  In Jesus name I pray, amen.
