1 Corinthians 13:1-3

Jesus states in John 8:12 (NIV), “I am the light of the world.  Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”  The Bible teaches us in Ephesians 5:8-10 (NKJV), “For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord.  Walk as children of light (for the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness, righteousness, and truth), finding out what is acceptable to the Lord.”

As the Apostle Paul teaches the congregation of the church at Corinth about their Spiritual gifts and utilizing them in a constructive way together to edify the Church as a whole, he now gives the answer to the key of his “more excellent way” (1 Corinthians 12:31) as being the requirement for love (1 Corinthians 13:1-3).

This is a promise that love is the answer to a “more excellent way” of desiring the best gifts from God.

1 Corinthians 13:13 (NIV) states, “And now these three remain: faith, hope and love.  But the greatest of these is love.  The Bible teaches us in 1 John 4:7-8 (NKJV), “Beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God.  He who does not love does not know God, for God is love.”  Love is the greatest because love is God.  But we must be clear about this; the love of God that God is, is a Love that is absolutely pure in its purest form as God is pure so is the Love that He is.  This is different for us and for many is difficult to understand because the love that we experience is only a sample of the purity of God that we cannot grasp in our most desperate attempt.  But as Paul declares in 1 Corinthians 13:12, “For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then face to face.  Now I know in part, but then I shall know just as I also am known.”

As we seek to do and say the things that are representative of love, if we don’t truly have the love of God through Christ Jesus living in our hearts through His Holy Spirit, we profit nothing (1 Corinthians 13:1-3).  Open your heart to the love of God today and profess Jesus your Savior; begin living a life of true Love today as you believe in your heart that Jesus died for your sins and was raised from the dead in victory over sin, death, and Satan – for you!

Dear LORD,

Thank You for being Love, and for offering Your true Love to us in salvation through our Savior Jesus as He took our sins to the cross and died in purity to pay the price for all sin so that we may be set free from sin and experience true Love – in Christ!  In Jesus name I pray, amen.
