1 Corinthians 12:12

The Apostle Paul has explained to the congregation of the church at Corinth of how they may all have different gifts given them through God’s Holy Spirit working in their lives, he now gives them examples of how they should all work together in being the body of Christ Jesus.  He states in 1 Corinthians 12:12 (NKJV), “For as the body is one and has many members, but all the members of that one body, being many, are one body, so also is Christ.”  He is letting them know that in the love of God working in and through their lives is a cooperation of working through their individual gifts to accomplish the mission of Christ Jesus in their whole body as being the body of Christ Jesus.

This is a command to work together in the body of the Church; that in our individual God-given gifts, we are to utilize them together in one body – the body of Christ Jesus.

The one true characteristic of God is love.  1 John 4:8 declares, “He who does not love does not know God, for God is love.”  The Bible teaches us in Galatians 5:22-23, “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control.  Against such there is no law.”  That means that there is no punishment for portraying all of these fruits of the Spirit.  In our individual God-given gifts we should portray these things that are all governed by love – the love of God working through our lives to touch the lives of others for Christ Jesus, that they too may have a relationship with Jesus unto salvation and experience the love that He has shown to us.

Dear LORD,

Please help us to realize and understand the gift/gifts that You have given us or that You have in waiting for us if we will put aside our own will and open our hearts to Your will for us.  Please help us to work together as one in the body of Christ Jesus to accomplish the greater mission of salvation for all who will believe in You.  Please give us the strength in our faith in You to follow Your will for our lives in utilizing the gift/gifts that you have given us as we may never know of how you worked through our lives to touch others through things as simple as sharing a kind word or lending a helping hand; that through it You may lead another lost soul to salvation in Christ Jesus.  Please let it be so LORD.  In Jesus name I pray, amen.
