1 Corinthians 11:2

The Apostle Paul begins this section of his letter to the church at Corinth with a comment that appears to give praise to them, but may very well be an encouraging statement for them to consider following the things he is teaching them so as if to gain his praise because they are currently not conducting themselves in such a manner.  This letter that Paul has written to the church at Corinth has been filled with constructive criticism which may be tough to receive but is intended to help them grow in their relationships with Christ Jesus.  The praise will come once they apply these teachings in their lives.

This is a command to follow in the footsteps of the Apostle Paul as he follows in the footsteps of Christ Jesus (1 Corinthians 4:16;1 Corinthians 11:1).

This is a promise of reward in praise for following the teachings of the Bible.

Jesus declares in John 16:33 (NKJV), “These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace.  In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.”  Jesus then began His prayer to His heavenly Father in John 17 and spoke these words (John 17:1-3), “Father, the hour has come.  Glorify Your Son, that Your Son also may glorify You, as You have given Him authority over all flesh, that He should give eternal life to as many as You have given Him.  And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.”  Jesus continues this prayer with the following words from John 17:13, “but now I come to You, and these things I speak in the world, that they may have My joy fulfilled in themselves.”

It is hard to find joy in this world, but the joy comes from within through the filling of God’s Holy Spirit given to all who will believe in Him.  This joy will be eternal and complete when we join Him in heaven.  Put your trust in Jesus today and join Him in heaven for eternity in His glory and joy.

Dear LORD,

You have given us the traditions to follow in the teachings of Jesus.  You have given us Your Word – the Bible so that we would not forget them.  Please put in our hearts to implement them into our lives so that we may be filled with Your joy – in Christ!  In Jesus name I pray, amen.
